In the autumn and winter period (or during the crisis/Covid-19), chronic diseases, including skin diseases and one of the most severe of theme – psoriasis, are exacerbated.
Psoriasis is a complex, chronic, multifactorial inflammatory disease affecting not only skin and nails, but also joints. Severity of the disease is determined by genetic, immunological and environmental factors. Chronic inflammation occurs not just locally – in skin, but also systemically throughout the body, therefore, various pathologies of organ systems (joints, cardiovascular) related to psoriasis develop.
The number of patients with psoriasis in Latvia might be about 7% of the population.
Approximately a third of people with psoriasis develop arthritis of inflammatory nature, which can cause permanent joint damage.
Psoriatic arthritis more often develops in patients with moderate to severe psoriasis, but the severity of psoriasis is not directly related to the severity of psoriatic arthritis.
Psoriatic arthritis often develops after the appearance of skin rash, but it can also be isolated, as the first manifestation of the disease, which complicates the diagnosis of the disease.
In December, we offer free consultations to patients with manifestations of psoriatic arthritis.
