In cooperation with Lions Club Jūrmala, Melanoma awareness day was held in the clinic on the 11th of October. During this day, residents of Jūrmala had an opportunity to check their skin formations free of charge with the clinic's resident doctor Viktorija Rogova and professor Jānis Ķīsis.
22 residents of Jūrmala applied for the check-up. During the visit, the doctor examined thoroughly the entire skin of the body and discussed what the most appropriate skin care routine for each individual was, as well as provided answers to questions of interest to patients.
We are pleased with the high number of people having responded to our call as several patients had visible sun caused skin damage and increased risk of developing a skin tumor. During the consultation, the necessity to use sunscreen was emphasized both for face and other exposed body parts, as well as the need to choose appropriate clothing to protect the skin from further sun exposure.
The purpose of Melanoma awareness day is to emphasize the need for preventive skin examinations to detect the skin cancer at an early stage when treatment is still relatively quick and simple. A professional birthmark examination is recommended at least once a year to detect changes in skin formations in a timely manner.
